What Is It?

Renters insurance is a type of coverage that typically is available on most types of residential property. These policies may minimize the tenant’s financial losses due to a number of events.

There are two main components to a renters policy. The first is a liability component. While the landlord may be held liable for certain types of damages and accidents as the property owner, the tenant may be held liable for other damages and accidents as the occupant of the home. For example, if a visitor to your home trips on a cord, you may be held liable for any medical expenses. Renters coverage may pay for the related expenses if you have a liability component in your policy.
