Were you aware that a 2021 study done by WalletHub suggests Louisiana has the most at-risk youths compared to the rest of the country? An “at-risk youth” is commonly defined as “a child that is less likely to transition successfully into adulthood”. There are many factors that can put a child at risk – a difficult school life, a challenging family environment, mental health issues, and more, leaving these children with several unmet needs.
In our community, we have the Three O’Clock Project (TOP), a nonprofit organization with a mission of “providing healthy meals and nutrition education for at-risk students after school and during the summer months.” They tackle fulfilling this essential need of feeding at-risk youth by partnering with schools, afterschool organizations, and food vendors. To date, they have served over 6 million meals!
